Ace journalist, Nana Aba Anamoah fell for a phishing attack which has resulted in the loss of her Twitter account yesterday.
The phishing message was disguised as one from the official Twitter Support Team making it easy for her to trust it. The phishing message read;
“Hi Dear User, Copyright infringement was detected in one of the tweets on your account. If you think copyright infringement is wrong, you need to provide feedback. Otherwise, your account will be suspended within 24 hours. You can give feedback at the link below. Thank you for your understanding. sites.google.com/view/help-twit Thanks, Twitter Support”
From my own deductions, the perpetrators behind the attack targetted people with large following and influence as Ameyaw Debrah of AmeyawDebrah.com says he got the exact message from them.
“Of course, if I had clicked on the link and entered my Twitter account details, thinking it was an official message from Twitter, they could have taken over my account as well,” the blogger said in his post.
The attackers changed the information in the journalist’s bio except for her username for fear of losing the verification badge.
As at this morning, the General Manager of GhOne TV had regained her account and had started posting tweets already.
Thank you, @Twitter
