Ghanaian FIFA referee Charles Bulu lost consciousness and collapsed on Tuesday afternoon while officiating the clash between Cote d’Ivoire and Ethiopia in Abidjan.
It is reported that he replaced another referee who could not make it to the pitch on time to officiate the match.
Bulu is said to have passed out during the 80th minute when Ivory Coast was leading Ethiopia by 3 goals to one. He was rushed to the hospital thereafter.
Ethiopia, however, qualifies for its first AfCON since 2013 as Madagascar failed to beat Niger.
Cote D’Ivoire lead Group K with 13 points followed by Ethiopia with 9 points.
