Gabby Otchere-Darko Calls For The Criminalisation Of Adultery In Ghana

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Gabby Otchere-Darko has called for the criminalisation of adultery in Ghana since the country is predominantly populated by Christians.

Gabby Otchere-Darko in a post on social media wondered why the majority of Ghanaians are Christians yet they practice sin as serious as adultery with impunity even though the Holy Bible says it is punishable by death.

Majority of Ghanaians are Christians. They believe in upholding Christian values. Adultery is a serious sin punishable by death (Lev. 20:10). I am therefore proposing a petition to Parliament for a Private Member’s Bill for a law against adultery, imposing stiff penalties.”

The politician’s tweet garnered a lot of reactions from the general public including users who had opposing views.

His lamentation comes after some Members of Parliament submitted a Bill that seeks to criminalise the activities of homosexuals in the country.

The private members’ bill is being championed by eight members of parliament, namely;

Sam George (MP, Ningo-Prampram), Della Sowah (MP, Kpando), Emmanuel Bedzrah (MP, Ho West), John Ntim Forjour (MP, Assin South), Alhassan Suhuyini (MP, Tamale North), Rita Sowah (MP, La Dadekotopon), Helen Ntoso (MP, Krachi West), Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor (MP, South Dayi).

The 36-page document is to ensure proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values; proscribe LGBTQ+ and related activities; proscribe propaganda of, advocacy for or promotion of LGBTTQQIAAP+ and related activities; provide for the protection of and support for children, persons who are victims or accused of LGBTTQQIAAP+ and related activities.”
